Sealing systems

Only a circumferentially closed system is protected against fire. In a data center it is necessary to consider several things here.

In a data center, there are several openings and outlets which, in case of fire, must be closed safely and air-impermeable in accordance with applicable fire safety standards.

These include cable entries for electricity, Internet, fiber optic and network. Also, the supply lines for the air conditioning, any overpressure valves and of course windows and doors. It is important that all components comply with the minimum standards that apply to the data center.

The standard of at least F90 is recommended here. The fire protection exists here so at least for the period of 90 minutes.

The properties of the sealing systems is determined by their function.

Ventilation and overpressure valves, for example, in case of fire must close not only reliable, they must be reliably secured against reopening. This is ensured by melting solders that close the lid securely in high heat development.

Cable and tube feeders may be sealed in various ways. In principle, one can distinguish between hard and soft sealing. With hard sealing the implementation is sealed hard once. This is done by special fire protection mortar or hard-cable ducts, which have special outlets for cable and are firmly bolted after implementation.

Soft sealings consist of a fire protected omission in the shell of the data center, which are filled with intumescent material. The material is flexible and pliable, but reacts to heat and swells to many times its volume. This swelling seals the casing fireproof. The flexibility of the material also allows for a more flexible use of cabling in the data center.

Eventually the best solution depends on the local conditions and should be discussed in detail. Talk to us, we're here to help!
